As Tim O’Reilly said so brilliantly, “obscurity is a far greater threat to authors and creative artists than piracy.” Nowhere is that more true than science and research, especially in the social sciences. I do not learn and labor in order to patent a life-saving drug, or a cure for any disease, or to start another software company. If one of these things (most likely the latter) happens, it won’t be because of my specific research. I do research for the thrill of discovery, but also for the recognition of my peers. That recognition only happens if they read and use my work. And that requires the widest possible dissemination of my ideas and results.
Hence the attribution requirement. If you use anything you find on this website, whether it’s an idea, or a quote, or a piece of software, you must attribute its source in any works you publish in print, other physical media, or electronically online. No exceptions.
One exception to the license are the typefaces used on MadsenLab. All typefaces that are not part of your operating system or browser installation are derived from Typekit, and their licensing terms apply. Typekit typefaces are used here under subscription.
Thank you, I hope you find something useful here, and share alike with others!
